The Baby Spider's Web

Transcription:

A message to any who feel they are unnoticed and unappreciated:

Once upon a time there was a baby spider, not much bigger than the period at the end of this sentence. It did what this kind of spider does and spent the night building a tiny web with great effort. When it was done, it rested upon its creation and merely existed.

Another creature came along, one of immense comparative size. It was so big it would not have had to put any effort at all into destroying hours of work in a fleeting second.

The larger creature paused, and noticed the placement of the spider's creation which spanned a gap in a gate to allow a hand through so as to unlatch it from the other side.

Unaware of its power and influence the spider continued to sit upon its creation and merely existed. It was tiny, vulnerable, veritably powerless against forces so much greater than it could possibly comprehend.

And yet, by creating something and merely existing this spider changed the course of a giant, who ended up choosing the long way around rather than take the shortcut the gate offered, due to appreciation of its work.

The spider never knew.

You may feel like your presence is so small it doesn't matter. You may have to do many things time and time again as they are unappreciated by others who care little if they destroy your efforts or hurt you.

But you might also never know about the many times your presence and effort has made a difference to someone else, and the power and influence your mere existence has in the world.
